This was posted on a friend's Facebook page.

What do you think of the dad's "tough love"?

  1. I don't know if my previous posts went through. Please disregard them.

I hope in time, Maria Louisa comes to see that not having such parents in her life may be a gift in and of itself. However, every child from birth to adulthood has the need for the love and approval of our parents. After a while, we can sometimes come to the peace that some of our parents can never approve of their children who leave and we can even learn to let go, but not without pain. --Punahilkka

  2. This is heartbreaking in its level of sinfulness. The hallmark of Fundamentalist belief is the absolute ability to cherry pick verses to say what you want to say. To take a verse, out of the context of time and place, and apply it.
Fundamentalists are scared people who create a god in their own image....a god whose spirit does not move where He wills it, but one whose spirit is confined by their fear. Their literal interpretation of the Bible becomes more powerful than the message of Christ

  3. It reads like a letter from the Taliban. Interestingly enough, it rhymes with many situations I saw within Laestadianism...ie "I love you so much I am going to beat the tar out of you" or "I love you so much I am going to terrorize you with hell-fire religious scare stories at such a young age that you will never be able to think for yourself and your subconscious will be controlled with guilt ridden fear." When viewed from the outside the various branches of Laestadianism can really be viewed on a spectrum that stems from a set of common beliefs. In other words, although there are variances of beliefs between each group with each one thinking how they are the only ones with the Spirit, the reality is they all have common beliefs INCLUDING formal or informal shunning such as that in the example. Of course the writer closes the letter expressing his "love". No wonder people leave churches. Old AP
