God's Pocket
Walking home with groceries in the cold
January dark that starts at four, our
six-year old pulls at my glove and points
at the brilliant, semicircular moon.
Look! he shouts
It's poking out of God's pocket!
We laugh. So it is. And the earth? I ask.
(Ambitious is a mother's pride.)
Well, it's a big coat! he reasons flawlessly.
We're all inside.
