You Don't Love God If You Don't Love Your Neighbor

Happy Thanksgiving. You can listen to this song, sung by Rhonda Vincent on Prairie Home Companion, by going to their archives via the link above.

There are many people who will say they're Christians
and they live like Christians on the Sabbath day
but come Monday morning til the coming Sunday,
they will fight their neighbor all along the way.

CHORUS:
Oh, you don't love God if you don't love your neighbor
if you gossip about him, if you never have mercy
if he gets into trouble and you don't try to help him
then you don't love your neighbor, and you don't love God

In the Holy Bible in the book of Matthew,
read the 18th chapter and the 21st verse
Jesus plainly tells us that we must have mercy,
there's a special wording in the 35th verse. (CHORUS)

There''s a God Almighty, and you've got to love Him
if you want salvation and a home above
if you say you love him while you hate your neighbor
then you don't have religion, you just toe the line. (CHORUS)

  1. It comes to mind how some "Christians" at work will
    1. steel anything that is not nailed down
    2. walk out of a store or restaurant knowing they were
    mistakenly not charged for something
    3. cheat on their spouse
    4. meanly spread gossip
    5. be lazy workers (i.e. steal from the company)
    6. but my biggest sin is "judgement" because I notice all the aformentioned faults of others.

Isn't it our human nature to judge other's sins forgetting that in the eye of God, He doesn't place stars or tick marks next to our sins giving them different "degrees" of sinfulness. To Him sin is sin is sin and we all fall short. Just a thought. It is the old "don't look for the speck in someone elses eye while ignoring the plank in our own".

And Freetobeme.......I hope you can keep dealing with the stress of this site because your efforts are truly appreciated.

  2. I have spent a good portion of the day reading the posting on this site, and forgive me for posting my comments here but I wasn't sure were to go with them. I have lived in an area with OALC members and have nothing but good experiences with them.

I am sadden to see that we as a society have gotten to the point of throwing stones at each other and trashing each others beliefs. EVERY church has their problems and mine is no exception but let us love they neighbor and not cast stones.

For this I have created my own blog, a friendly OALC site for those that want answers to questions and that are seeking a friendly approach to God and not a shameful one.

Please share and I will try to do my best to help, be patient with me

  3. Dear OALC friend,
I am thankful to know that you have had nothing but good experiences with those who go to the OALC, but please refrain judgment until you have walked a mile in someone's moccasins.
We are not throwing stones, we are making clear observations based on personal experience on a church that we have found to a) not tell the truth (according to the Bible) and b) hinder and persecute those who do. It is a church that each of us that used to attend offered 100% of our loyalty to, but it chewed us up and spit us out when we asked questions or disagreed with the leadership. Many of us have given up every single person in our lives that we at one time considered our good friends. We have been called evil workers and crazy for one reason and one only, we hold to the gospel of Jesus Christ and not to doctrines made of man.
It is, without question, the most difficult experience of my entire life, and if I appreciate a forum where I can freely discuss it, please forgive me. If I can help just one person go through what I have been through, my experience will be worthwhile.
May the love of Christ and the peace of God be your guide.
