Time Changes Nothing, People Do

"The only task worthy of our efforts is to construct the future."

Men of conscience and women of courage, please carve out an hour, sit down with your teens (if you don't have any, borrow some), and watch this powerful talk by Dr. Joan Chittister. She is a Benedictine nun, author, and co-chair of the Global Peace Initiative of Women.

She believes in a God who is not sexist and will make you wonder why so many don't.

Afterwards in the Q&A, you can hear the list of countries that rank highest in living conditions for women. Before you listen, where do you think the United States falls on the list? Top five, top ten, or top twenty?

  1. Flora says: This is so excellent. Powerful--and although the content is demoralizing, the message is uplifting. A great reminder to us all to be the change.

  3. As a side note, I like her description of Benedictine Spirituality: "How to live an ordinary life extraordinarily well". This Benedictine spirituality was what led me, after an exploration of Buddhism, into the Catholic Church. Rather ironic, that so many people find the Catholic Church so rigid, when coming from an LLC background, it is to me an embodiment of Freedom.

  4. This is an amazing speech. As a Catholic, and an ex OALC, I intensely watched her speech and was proud to have become Catholic, because even if there are things that I may not agree with in my Church, I can openingly discuss those disagreements, and I am encouraged to question. Thanks for putting this extraordinary video out there, for all of us to view, to contemplate, and, to hopefully, consider some type of action.

  5. Thanks to both of you for weighing in. Doesn't it seem as if Pope Francis has been consulting Sister Joan? It gives hope to the weary heart.'
