No map, please! I know of several people who would be unwilling to risk having their identity discovered at this time. It could hamper their ability to explore leaving the church. They need our support!
cvow, while you were off having a life, I was experimenting with a really nifty world map from frapper.com that showed the cities of visitors past and present. I thought a visual reminder that the world is bigger than our backyard would be wholesome. But I hadn't considered that some of our visitors don't want their hometowns advertised on this site.
I thought it was neat, but I can see some peoples point, they don't want their identity known. I really don't care, but others do. So I guess I'd say, lose the map.
I agree with Faith above, I liked the map but if some other people are afraid it might reveal their identity, I guess it's better not to have it. In many Laestadian communities only suspicion that you have some doubts can get you in trouble. Besides, they have warned about this blog in some churches, so if someone gets caught of lurking or writing here, they can risk facing some serious interrogation.
Free, Why are you cutting off discussion so quickly in some of the older topics? I think there was still some life left in the dead faith/living faith issue, for example.
Yes Im curious along with cvow. I have always been amazed at the pace you keep with new topics, and while it can keep things hopping and interesting, it can sometimes feel like a topic was not quite finished, and gets continued anyways under a new heading (meant for somthing else) What are your thoughts oh administrator :)
Free, Troll has raised an interesting topic that might stand alone -- that of our familial relations and experiences, and how the church affected/didn't affect that. Waddayathink?
That would be a very interesting, yet sorrowful discussion, I fear. (for me) Although, Im sure many have found interesting ways of coping and moving on, and those would be nice to hear about. And yet my experiences still helped define my outlook and expectations for relationships. The cutoff was just such a shock and in such contrast to what was taught. Hard to reconcile...
Have I mentioned I really enjoy the break these jokes have brought? Its nice to laugh :) Its nice to be able to look back with humor too, and not just sorrow.
troll: I certainly hope you didnt ask to remove your comment on my behalf. It is an interesting topic and it is a part of life; I dont view sad things as topics to avoid, just contemplate and figure out how to find the better things out of a situation. (And I appreciate your kindness in not wanting to "cause any more misery", but you certainly were not the cause of any misery for me, nor your comments)
troll; I read that post before it was deleted. I too appreciated it. Humor, grief, joy, sorrow, love and misery are all shared experiences in a family and several people on this blog have referred to one another as family. (I'm sure you're included there.) So the experiences you related were not out of place here.
I too appreciate the humor.
Thanks for removing the map, Free. I agree that for this type of site, it's not the best idea. Especially for those who may still be in the church and are considering leaving.

ReplyDeleteI vote lose the map--it's cool, but anonymity is better for certain people
ReplyDeleteEither the map stays, or I go
ReplyDeletewhat map?
ReplyDeleteOh there I go again, ignoring the important stuff.

ReplyDeleteThe map is fun, but when I start guessing identities based off it, I think it's not good for this specific site.
