There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. —Maya Angelou
Are you ready to tell your story?

Anyone who leaves Laestadianism becomes a stranger in two worlds, and no matter how well prepared we are, it is painful. Humans are social animals, with a primal need to bond and seek stability in relationships. Research in neuroanthropology indicates that separation from our social bonds is felt as a biological assault: we experience the pain physically, just we would from a broken arm or leg.

No wonder leaving is traumatic. But by forging new connections, and sharing our stories, we help ourselves heal.

And we can also let others know they are not alone.

Please consider sharing your story. Don't be concerned about your writing abilities or whether your story is "interesting." And you don't need to wait until you are further along in your journey or until certain questions are settled.

We are all works in progress, always.

Confidentiality is respected and pen names can be used.

You might begin by responding to these questions:
  1. What compelled me to leave?
  2. How has leaving shaped my life and relationships?
  3. What would I like others to know about the journey out and beyond?
