I have read two articles recently on this subject, in USA Today and, I believe, Newsweek. Isn't this reportorial remark a kind of nonsense? If a person says that, for example, they practice yoga and they feel much more at peace and alive as a result, I think there is a reasonable presumption that their testimony is true. Of course, it is possible that the change is coincidental with their new practice but is really caused by some kind of change in their drinking water or some other undiscovered cause, but the likelihood of the person being mistaken about the cause of the change is small.
What the reporter really meant to say was that "These benefits haven't been measured yet." This goes back to the presumption, which is only a presumption and is, in fact, quite false, that only that which can be measured, reported on, and reproduced by independent researchers really exists. By this standard, most of our experience--almost all of our lives--is an illusion.oven mitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10367609027480596437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8088717.post-12188313131073072432005-11-18T21:05:00.000-08:002005-11-18T21:05:00.000-08:00Dear Oven Mitt,Ah, but perhaps it is only an illus...Dear Oven Mitt,

Ah, but perhaps it is only an illusion!
